Series B report from Skye

The first Series ‘b’ event was held over Easter weekend on the Isle of Skye. Very few pilots made it up that far North due to distance -worries about weather and other Easter holiday commitments. For the few - it was a dream weekend. Perfect weather to experience this lovely place and also provide testing sailing conditions on a fine runway.

Hosts Simon and Anita held the event as part of the launching of ‘skyekartxtreme’ . A blokart track to introduce more to the sport in this far flung corner of the UK. Highly motivated, enthusiastic, welcoming and well organised - we have perfect ambassadors for Blokarting on Skye.

Friday saw little wind but snowy mountains in clear blue skies. A good look at the Cuillins, Portree and the Talisker distillery. All steeped in history, tradition and all leave you feeling really good!

Saturday was a 5.5 / 4 m day . Before some races we helped out with those wishing to ‘have a go’ . A new blokart grin is always a pleasure to facilitate…

Lunch in Broadford and - as on every day on Skye- we meet, chat to and are educated by warm hearted locals. Hot soup with optional snake handling - yes a unique place!

Racing as wind picks up and blows at 90 degrees to the runway. Results not too important but learning was . My race was with Graham and all the better for being so close all weekend. Special mention should go to Natasha (11) who under Dads guidance completed her first races so well and confidently. We do need to encourage more racing for children.

Sunday- a day of rest- boat trip- seals-otters-birdlife- barbeque courtesy of our hosts at their charming home- venison-wine - sun-remote beaches-more lovely people-sphincter testing off roading - all great .

Monday was err very windy and a little damp. After taking in a castle and lunch things got brighter and drier and we enjoyed some seat-of-pants racing. Some scrapes but what fun! A 2 m day- ‘nuff said.

Thoughtfully original prizes were handed out over a meal and drink and we decided we should probably tell the world Skye was a terrible place to visit for a blokart race. We would have to all to ourselves again next year… I doubt we’d get away with that. Here’s to next Easter on Skye -
