British Blokart Championships Round 2 - Gwithian, October 17-19th 2008

Round two of the British Blokart Championships was held over the over the weekend of the 18th/19th October at Gwithian beach in Cornwall. The event was hosted by Speedsail UK and sponsorship provided by ICS Communications, RuRoc Helmets and Dales Car Dealership supplied additional safety vehicles.
This was the final round of the two round series and the combined results would decide the overall championship winners.

A fleet of 26 competitors from all over the British Isles attended including 10 who travelled from Northern Ireland. As with the previous round at Ainsdale beach, Southport the field was divided into the Production and Performance categories and then subdivided into two weight divisions, light and heavy.

Saturday’s racing favoured the lighter racers and those with the largest sails (the 5.5M) as light winds prevailed. Sunday was forecast was to be much stronger and although not quite as forecasted the this allowed most of the fleet to race with the 4M sail.

Sunday afternoon was the time to sort the final positions and Justin Heap (K75) again came out on top in the Overall Performance Class closely followed by Steve Harvey (K63) and then Josh Sharp (K152). Gwen Heap (K88) was triumphant in the Overall Production Class with Tim Seed (K15) and Rosie Tribe. Overall Junior for the day was Harry Smith (K57) followed by Haydn Dodge (K96)

The next key racing events are the European winter events in Holland, Belgium and Mallorca followed by the Ice Europeans in Lithuania in the New Year.

We will continue to use the Transponder system for all BLSA Racing Events.  The BLSA will be looking at the racers buying there own Transponder, the cost of the Transponder chip is currently £65, but there are usually Transponders available for hire for those that dont want to buy. There is a deposit of £60 in addition to the hire fee in case it gets lost. So it makes sense and will save you money in the long term to buy one.
